The United States reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 11 percent in 2020, according to newly released data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The reduction places U.S. emissions at their lowest level since the mid-1980s.
Even before the 2020 reductions, the United States had reduced more carbon dioxide emissions during the present century than any other nation. Between 2000 and 2019, U.S. emissions declined 14 percent, while China’s emissions tripled, India’s emissions more than doubled, and global emissions rose by 50 percent.
The scientific evidence clearly contradicts assertions of an imminent climate crisis. But even if global warming were a problem, it would be quite foolish for America to continue unilaterally punishing its economy with energy restrictions and other impediments while the rest of the world continues rapidly increasing their own emissions.
